1. What tools are used in the Foundation DVD?

The Foundation DVD is built around prong collar foundational work, so a prong collar is crucial to the training. The other tools used in the DVD are a 4-6 foot nylon leash, and a carabiner – we also suggest a crate for your dog. We prefer Herm Sprenger prong collars!

2. Is E-Collar Training covered?

Unfortunately, the Foundation DVD does not cover E-Collar training. However! The Good Dog will be releasing an E-Collar DVD early 2015. Stay tuned!

3. Is it possible to work with you further, if I’m stuck on something?

Yes! Please contact us to set up a phone or Skype consultation.

4. Does the Foundation DVD use treats in the training?

Our training approach is relationship-based. Sean believes firmly that our dogs should be working for us, not for a food morsel. Treat training has many limitations and tends to cause dogs to be overly-excited, hyper, and food-fixated rather than relaxed and calm, which is great if you are training flyball or agility, but not when you are training a family dog to calmly co-habitate with you!

5. Why do you use prong collars?

We use prong collars because we find them to be the best tool for connecting, communicating, and creating a harmonious relationship with the least amount of physical stress to the dog and owner. Most tools tend to only mask or manage the behavior, while the prong collar allows us to actually break through and effortlessly communicate, creating a vastly different state of mind and a highly responsive dog. While prong collars tend to look horrible, when used correctly, they have been proven to be the least physically taxing, most humane, and one of the safest tools available. Check out the following video to learn more about how we use this tool, and the results that it can have:

6. What is covered in the DVD?

On the basic training level, the Foundation DVD covers tools, Place, Sit, Down, the Walk, Crate, and Waiting for Food. On a much more important level, the DVD covers the philosophy behind how to use these obedience exercises as a bridge to a calm, relaxed, and respectful state of mind.

7. What is covered in the PDF?

The PDF is a comprehensive source of information that covers everything from The Good Dog’s philosophy, to training exercises and their uses, to a step-by-step guide into creating your very own at-home board and train with your dog, alongside thee dvd. The PDF is a wealth of information that will help you in your journey to getting the dog of your dreams.

11. Do you have any recommendations for balanced trainers in my area?

Possibly! First please go here: http://www.canineprofessionals.com/find-a-professional and search your zip code – if you are still having trouble, contact us and we will try to help!

12. I have tried other trainers and methods before and didn’t get the results I desired – what makes your program and approach different and more effective?

We are often the last stop after clients have been through multiple trainers. Unlike other training approaches that only focus on developing rehearsed behaviors, bribing with treats, or merely managing/bandaid-ing the problem, we have developed a unique approach that fundamentally changes the dog’s state of mind. Once we address the dog’s state of mind, the sky’s the limit for what we can create. By cultivating new habits, teaching the dog to make better choices, training calmness instead of excitability, and employing our unique duration work, we are consistently successful with dogs that others are unable to help. This will be the last dog training you will ever need.

13. Can I buy the DVD/streaming and then return it?

All sales are final 🙂

14. I can’t afford the DVD, but I’m in a bad situation with my dog – what can I do?
